Tailoring for Tall Men, Grooms

Photo credit weddingbee.comCongratulations to all you couples who got engaged yesterday on Valentine’s Day. The SF Tailor team is excited for you. Please keep us in mind as your plan your wedding day. We specialize in custom made suits and tuxedos for grooms & groomsmen besides formal wear for fathers of the bride and groom. Our clients have been happy to look and feel great, plus stay within their budgets!

In November we shared 5 tips so a man of shorter proportions can stand taller next to a tall bride.

Today we’re explaining 5 factors when tailoring for tall men:

    • Don’t lengthen your profile, especially if you’re slim.
Avoid vertical stripes as the pattern of your suit and shirts. A pinstripe suit with a lightly-checkered (gingham) shirt or solid shirt pairs best. If you’re not wearing a jacket, tall men can still wear vertical stripe dress shirts. (Read how a bespoke dress shirt can impact your future and then customize one In 5 minutes.)

With a tuxedo, a cummerbund can divide your body into shorter and still flattering segments.
    • Solid suits look good, but don’t avoid patterns or textures.
Typically solid suits look good. For some men, however, the monochromatic (same color) effect can create an unwanted visual effect — the look of too much fabric. More importantly if you like patterned fabric, you don’t have to avoid it. Faint patterns such as faint pinstripes draw positive attention to you.
Textured clothing also reduces the monochromatic effect. To avoid the look of excess fabric and to add distinction to your wardrobe, tall men can employ weaves like a subtle herringbone. We have a large selection of fabric for you to fully customize your suit or tuxedo.
    • Double-breasted jackets are A-OK!
Thinner men may find the design of a double breasted jacket can add extra bulk, width or girth to the torso. They also can exercise the option to wear vests. Extra layering add visual weight to their lean frames. If you’re a tall man with nice pecs or a fuller / more muscular chest, you may pass on the double-breasted look… and we don’t recommend vests and layering.
    • Know your true measurements.
The result will be a shirt and shirt waist fitted well for your torso. This prevents extra fabric (the reality, not the visual effect) from bunching up when you tuck in your shirt. Proportion is important. If you expose less shirt cuff, your arms can appear slightly shorter. Order your bespoke shirt in minutes.
  • Adjust trousers at the hem.
Have an adequate amount of break — the length where your trousers / pants meet your shoes — to reveal your true height, not an exaggerated one. Another thought to consider is cuffing trouser hems

Do you know a man who has difficulty finding suits or tuxedos that fit well? We’d like the privilege to dress any tall groom, groomsmen, or men who are special to your wedding party.

The SF Tailor provides high-quality and expert tailoring, so a tall men can focus attention on his beautiful bride and comfortably experience their wedding — and any time he wears his bespoke suit or tuxedo.

SHOW US THE MUSCLE! — Jerry Maguire

Whether you’re working hard to tone up or to shed some ‘extra love’ the San Francisco Tailor will provide you with a custom made suit that shows — not hides — your results. Your body isn’t exactly like everybody else’s. So why would you buy a suit that is made for the masses?

Don’t let those hours at the gym go to waste.
Don’t let off-the-rack clothes insult your beauty. Fitness is beautiful.

A bespoke suit enhances what women are sculpting. If you have a muscular body, we can tailor clothes that fit. Adios back and shoulder issues! Need a customized coat that doesn’t strain at the biceps? Women, don’t worry about getting big if you like weightlifting. Men’s bodies are made to develop big, bulky muscles. Nevertheless your proportions will change over time. If you’re cyclists, calves are gorgeous… and we can make room for them too.

Don’t settle for clothes at the stores that hide your form like a tent
because your biceps, shoulders, or calves don’t fit the fashion industry’s idea of beauty.

7 Essential Details for Suits

In the blink of an eye January, 2015 has come and gone. We know you’re busy, so here are the most essential details you ought to know about men’s suits… Educate yourself, then take your wardrobe and career to the next level with the personal assistance of The SF Tailor.

fitted shoulders1. Given the opportunity, always opt for custom made or bespoke.
Nothing will fit you better. Nothing will give you the same amount of confidence. Don’t fool yourself. If you don’t have accurate measurements, visit an alterations service and get your stats in minutes… and typically for free.

2. A good fit starts with the shoulders.
If you send unusual measurements when you place an order with The SF Tailor, we will confirm them. We want to craft the best possible fit an online tailor can provide you. We’ve already minimized the overhead, passing along our cost savings to you.

3. Lapels should match the width of your torso.
Only wear peaked lapel suits if you are relatively fit, as they accentuate your torso. A slender chest needs skinnier lapels.

4. Opt for sleeves cuffsa quarter-inch (0.63 cm) longer than your jacket sleeve.
This is a hallmark of a well made, well-thought customized suit. If you’re a man of shorter proportions, expose a half-inch (1.27 cm) of shirt cuff. It’ll make your arms appear longer.

5. Cuffs look traditional on suit pants and add weight to the fabric.
As an extension of this, your trousers will drape better. Again if you are not average height, trousers that sit high on the waist and ‘break’ atop shoes also lengthen the body. Uncuff those trouser hems.

complimentary (diagonally across) colors to mix and match6. When wearing a tie, three patterns rarely work together. Choose two solids and a pattern, or a solid and two patterns.

If you don’t have the knack or aptitude to pair colors, use a color wheel when mixing and matching. To use the wheel, choose colors that are diagonal or complementary. The colors should form an equilateral triangle (three equal sides).

7.  When using a wide spread collar, wear a half Windsor or full Windsor tie knot.
The former is also known as the single Windsor knot. It works well with light- and medium-weight fabrics to produce a neat, triangular knot (smaller than the full Windsor). The technique only brings the tie around the loop on one side, not both. Watch a video demonstration, here.

Full Windsor KnotThe full or double Windsor is pictured here. It produces a wide symmetrical triangular knot. Watch a video demonstration, here.

Now that you’re better informed, The SF Tailor team can personalize your suits and prime you for your job promotion.

How Your Custom Tailored Shirt Impacts Your Future

Our custom made shirts are tailored to your individual measurements. You can choose from a wide assortment of colors and patterns, while our talented and experienced tailor selects quality fabrics. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that bespoke shirts are often no more expensive than mass-produced, store bought shirts. Today you can easily afford custom made garments.

Ready to wear clothes aren’t designed with you in mind. If you’re lucky enough to fit mainstream sizes, you can settle for something — but you’ll never know a perfect fit and self-assurance it can bring to your character.

The SF Tailor team creates each dress shirt with skill, care and pride. The shirt will retain its good appearance and shape. Clothes crafted exclusively for you fit correctly. So you can look and feel your best.

photo credit HouseOfHarper.comBespoke shirts are versatile and essential to your wardrobe. On days when the office is less busy and quieter, hang up that custom tailored suit jacket. Your dress shirt will suffice in the workplace.

Perhaps you have important clients you want to impress. Monogrammed cuffs are an exquisite detail — and your business partners will notice. Customizing the thread color of the button holes also signals your attention to detail. Do your clients and vendors know who you are?  Gain an unspoken advantage in negotiations and close those contracts.

People who reserve their customized shirts for extra special occasions get opportunities to excel, but those chances are fewer and farther apart.

Tailored shirts are often better quality than store bought shirts. When you also consider the confidence they bring and the opportunities for professional advancement, you get a greater ROI (return on your investment). You don’t need to work on Wall Street to get great value for your money.

As an online tailor, The SF Tailor, already lowers our overhead to offer you affordable elegance.

Is a Faster, Cheaper, Better Suit Possible?

When some of our clients receive their first – ever custom tailored suits, they often feel like Neil Armstrong on the moon: one small step for man, one giant leap for man’s self-esteem

Let’s rewind and review how we got here together:

At first these individuals were hesitant and doubtful of online custom tailors. Which online tailor is the best? Can I trust Google search results? I’m ordering online but prices are still expensive. Other online tailors’ suits are even cheaper. Maybe I’ll go back to the department store…

Can The SF Tailor really make a faster, cheaper, better – fitting suit for me?

Before your suit is tailored by hand, take a few minutes to get your measurements. Simply visit an alterations service. (BTW these individuals cannot necessarily sew a bespoke suit. They focus on minor changes.) With accurate measurements, fully customize your suit at theSFtailor.com.

The fastest turnaround time we offer
is two weeks.

Bespoke services can start at four-figures when you consider the overhead of a brick-and-mortar store, excessive inventory of fabrics, client service representatives, and more. With a two-week deadline, we’re focusing on your suit in our studio — instead of getting distracted by walk-ins who aren’t sure custom-made is for them. We share our cost savings with you, our clients and friends.

Our online custom suiting is more accessible, starting at less than $250 USD.

Even top Google-ranked competitors charge at least $450 USD for custom online suits. They use digital cutting and machine construction, commanding higher profit margins (for their investors) than we do. They’ll offer discounts to spur sales. On the other hand, we maintain a tradition of hand tailoring and detailing. We enjoy our work — and won’t under-sell our staff and their craft.

What you get is custom-made, high-quality elegance at a affordable price point.

From college and university graduates to small businessowners and entrepreneurs, our clients want to feel confident and look good. They haven’t made their millions — yet. Til then, why should they settle for cheap, poorly-made, disposable suits off-the-rack?

5 Tailoring Tips for Petite Women

We’re celebrating Short Girl Appreciation Day with five tailoring tips for petite women — who are 5’4″ and under, or 163 cm and under.

First, petite doesn’t mean short and slim. Department stores and pret-a-porter (ready to wear) brands however cut fabric and patterns with that in mind. Narrower shoulders and shorter inseams can be uncomfortable and unflattering for short ladies with larger proportions.

Empire waist lengthens petite legs & compliment curves.

    • A balancing act is needed if you’re a bustier, well-endowed woman.
An empire waist cuts the torso just below the bustline. This will create a great visual effect — lengthening those petite legs. Pair a fitted top with a high-waist skirt, trousers or jeans… and even ballerina flats to network your way around the city. Don’t hide what you’ve got! Extra baggy or extra long shirts will only call more attention to your top half.

BONUS: Empire-style waists designed for regular sizes are easier to find than exclusive petite sizing. Cut that pity party short, and get out the door to shop!

  • Layers can fake a perfect fit.

Invest in a custom tailored jacket. Every woman should have a black blazer in her wardrobe.

Dress it up for business meetings and presentations. Inspiring confidence, it makes a powerful statement. Dress it down with a trendy camisole or a t-shirt for a flirty evening on the town, or fun weekend brunch with your entourage of besties.

If those tops don’t fit your form in some places, your bespoke blazer will still make you look fabulous! Cuff long sleeves to instantly lengthen arms.

BONUS: A fitted shirt under a cropped sweater also lengthens the torso. Longer necklaces can draw eyes downward away from your face, as well as drawing eyes upward away from thicker hips and thighs.

faux pas! These trouser hems make a short woman look shorter.

faux pas! These trouser hems make a short woman look shorter.

  • Your legs are not the problem. Ill-fitting pants are.
Department stores & popular brands don’t design clothes with you in mind. Proportion is key! Trousers should break atop shoes. Bunching and cuffed hems are quick — but poor fixes. Also vertical patternsdraw eyes upward; choose from a large selection of fabric for you to fully customize your trousers and skirts

  • Pair shoes and bottoms that are similar in color.

A monochromatic look gives the illusion of a longer silhouette. Stock your closet with shoes similar in color to your skin tone as well as your stockings / nylons.

Be mindful of your coat as well. The SF Tailor hand tailors clothing for every client. Select your fabric and lining to personalize one of four popular styles. We like the Picadilly: It’s cropped and especially complimentary for petite ladies.

Better yet — send us your measurements and a photo of a coat worn by your favorite celebrity. We specialize in these types of orders.

  • Last but not least, be CONFIDENT.
Don’t resent your body. Embrace what you’ve been given. Know what can make you look good… and know we can make you look good! So you feel confident when you wear what you love.

Timeless: Custom Tailored Clothes

grey double breasted suit made to measure suit for men by San Francisco TailorPutting  together  a  wardrobe  day  in,  day  out  may  seem  effortless  for  fashionistas  or  a  runway  model  sashaying confidently  in  the  latest  haute  couture. But  fashion, bespoke tailoring wise,  is  not  made  haphazardly  in  just  one day.

It needs to go through a process of quality control and collaboration with clients to complete a suit, shirt, or whatever the client desires. It isn’t a one size fits all approach.

Each garment makes each suit or shirt as unique as the individual wearing it.

“Fashion  forward”  may  be  the  chief  goal  of  fashion  designers  and  stylists,  but  timeless  elegance is what customized tailoring represents – then and more so now.

While tech driven economies have fused tradition and innovation today, old and new processes have increased the buying power of working professionals. Highly personalized fashion now has more global reach. It’s not exclusive to the rich and wealthy.

Tailor made suits and fashion are exclusive to your personal measurements.

Made to measure suits can now be purchased online with effective DIY, custom made, and personalized marketing from online tailors.

Back  in  the  day, local  tailors had limited accessibility. Today, coupled with the influence  of  online branding, visiting tailors constantly travel the world to meet clients.

The business of custom tailoring has successfully evolved. It adapts to changing fashion. Mass production is certainly unbecoming and unattractive given the time to tailor one impeccable suit. We’re thankful to have a deep portfolio of old, loyal and a steady flow of new clients. Bespoke today includes classic accessories, from custom made cufflinks, boutonnières and even footwear.

The old adage that nothing ever stays the same holds true even — especially for personalized tailoring because tailors and  artisans  never  compromise  on  quality. In this aspect, quality  alone makes  the  creation  of  bespoke fashion timeless and a cut above the rest.

5 Advantages of Buying Custom Made Suits

single breasted suit black lined lapels bespoke grey suit custom tailored suits by San Francisco TailorWe cover 5 major advantages to buying men’s custom made suits:

  1. Immaculate & Dapper Fashion
If you fall into the category of an immaculate dresser — someone very pedantic about his clothing and doesn’t like a single thread askew — then it’s necessary to get your suits tailor-made. Ready-made suits rarely fit people. They often need to be altered. Even after alterations, this business wear may not leave you satisfied. Made to measure suits however will fit so well you feel satisfied. Confidence looks good on you.
  2. Get the Perfect Fit
Men’s custom made suits are tailored after your exact measurements are meticulously taken. Thus, tailors get the fit right. More importantly, they usually leave a small margin in case you gain or shed some pounds. Hence, your fittings are not affected dramatically. This is a serious advantage over ready-made, off the rack clothing.
  3. Styled to Your Taste
You can customize your suits to your preferences and personality. In contrast, a retail shop features ready-made suits flawless in design but colors are trendy or fabric is not to your liking. Perhaps the different store stocks your favorite color and an acceptable fabric, but the design doesn’t compliment your body shape. Should a suit catch your eye, you still leave the store disappointed because your size wasn’t in stock — or it was beyond your budget. Hence, it can be almost impossible to find the perfect combination of design, color, fabric, fit and price — but online men’s custom made suits meet your demands easily.
  4. More Convenience, Less Hassle
You’re busy. Everyday you’re hussling. When you send your measurements and suit specifications to us, we deliver your tailor made suit to your door. Upon arrival, you need not alter it. Personalized business wear fits you like a second skin. Plus, you already saved yourself time from on public transport or finding a parking space, and fighting crowds at the department store, where nobody can find good help from courteous sales associates.
  5. Good Quality at an Affordable Price
The quality you get with men’s custom made suits will be to your liking since you choose the fabric and details. When you decide the theme and design, you call the shots. And even after getting all these benefits, you get the suit tailored at very affordable prices.

All these factors warrant you get your suits tailor-made and delivered to your front door — instead of getting a headache when picking them up from retail shops.

Tailor Made Suits for Men: Blunders When Making Your Choice

custom tailored tuxedo cobalt blue with black satin shawl lapels black pocket detailing by San Francisco TailorTailor-made suits for men are gaining popularity among average Joes. For several years the SF Tailor has been bringing affordable elegance to ordinary men. These days you don’t need to be Warren Buffett, Bill Gates or Manjo Bhargava to order bespoke suits. Since we established our studio, demand for made to measure clothes has grown… and so has the supply. Today we aware of certain mistakes or faults in choosing your personalized suits or tuxedos, pictured left.

Just as clothes make a man, man makes clothes. Despite the fact fully customized suits are a masterpiece of craftsmanship, those who buy them may commit errs in design or they can blunder the taking of measurements. If a suit doesn’t fit a man, it’s a useless purchase.

Custom fit suits should meet the exact body type of the men who wear them. The rogue and style that comes with a particular suit instills a great sense of confidence (and attraction). So tailor-made suits that are designed to match to a man’s exact needs are the best choice among all. A so-called gentleman identifies himself with decorum and maintains a good standing within society.

With a bespoke suit, an individual can maintain a healthy and admirable position — standing  against all evils that prevail in the world.

Tailor-made suits for men are tremendously popular on the web and even purchased in bulk. (We’ve had the privilege of dressing teams of restaurant waiters and members of men’s choirs.) Most of these suits fit the buyer’s requirement because the customers define the fashion consistent with their own needs.

One common mistake when ordering is a lack of attention to details. To suit the highest level of perfection, focus on different characteristics related to the suit you want to buy. Take a look now at the many specifications that allow your suit to be as unique as you are or you want it to be. Without a proper understanding of the product, you’ll bound to make some thoughtless decisions.

Collect info about reasonable prices for suits from department stores and online tailors. Is it an off the rack or custom tailored suit? These errs often cause discrepancies in price. Some customers can feel cheated before they even buy a suit. First, understand the real and competitive price. How much would you pay today for the same product in a brick-and-mortar store? a department store or a boutique? In this regard, collect info from different sources to know what fair prices are — and what sort of purchase you will make.

We stay up to date with the latest style & fashion trends. However making a sensible choice, choosing a suit that reflects your personality to your community, is your choice, not ours.

Tailor-made suits for men we make available to you are unique. They are one-of-a-kind, designed to give you a customized, comfortable and confident look. Be the dapper gentleman you dare to be with the cloth you select. Does it fit your personality type? Also be careful about the price you pay, so your investment returns a sensible quality to you.
